Women and Their Bodies is fortunate to have hundreds of active volunteers – women from a wide spectrum of Israeli society working as health professionals within the Israeli medical establishment and feminist activists involved in lobbying and policy change. We are all activists, each in our own way, promoting women’s equality, justice and human rights in Israel.

The following is a list of several additional core members and founders of the organization:

Dr. Revital Arbel is a senior gynecologist and works at the Obstetrics and Gynecology department and Urology department,   at Hadassah, Jerusalem. Her main fields of activity and research include urinary incontinence and pelvic floor reconstruction, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and treatment of sexual abuse and rape victims.  Dr. Arbel also instructs medical and nursing students and professional stuff on these subjects. Dr. Arbel is a member of the Ministry of Health quality of care appraisal committee regarding treatment of sexual and domestic violence victims and a lecturer in the Ministry of health and the Ministry of Law specialists program for child abuse treatment. Dr. Arbel is a volunteer with Doctors for Human Rights in the West Bank

Safa Tamish is the founder of the ‘Arabic Forum for Human Sexuality’. She graduated in 1988 from the Hebrew University in Nursing and received a Masters degree in Human Sexuality at New York University in 1993.  Tamish conducted research on sexuality in Palestinian society in the West Bank, Gaza, and in Israel.  Since 1994, she has been training Arab professionals in sexuality education.  She has also established sexuality counseling services for Palestinian adolescents through the “Open Door” centers in Nazareth, Haifa, and Ramleh.  She currently coordinates the committee on Sexuality Education Curriculum for Palestinian Schools in Israel. Safa is a former board member at ‘Women and their Bodies’.

Kinneret Milgrom – Former board member and WTB’s first Resource Development Coordinator, Kinneret is a certified facilitator of Palestinian-Israeli dialogue groups, working with youth in Jaffa and across the region through Wahat Al-Salam School of Peace and the Israeli Center for Human Dignity. Kinneret is a certified perinatal masseuse, and is currently training as a birth assistant. Kinneret has worked and continues to volunteer with Physicians for Human Rights, Israel. She received her BA in Gender Studies, Anthropology and Sociology

Anneke Ifrah is an epidemiologist with Masters Degrees in Public Health and English Literature.   She has worked in research and teaching in the field of public health, as well as in writing, editing and translation of professional articles and other materials.  One of her main publications in the field of women’s health is the guide book “Women’s Health in Israel 1999-2000”.  Her current position is Head of Publications at the Israel Center for Disease Control, Ministry of Health.

Dr. Anna Woloski-Wruble is a registered midwife with a specialization in sexual health education. She is a lecturer at the Hebrew University and director of academic affairs and international relations at the Henrietta Szold School of Nursing at Hadassah Hospital.  Dr. Woloski-Wruble has a practice clinic in sexual health guidance at both Hadassah- Ein kerem and Mt. Scopus. Dr. Woloski-Wruble’s research addresses sexual health throughout the lifespan for teens, menopausal women, husbands of women with breast cancer, and patients at various points in their diagnosis and treatment of chronic conditions.  She has published several articles in scientific international journals.  She is also involved in developing a faith-based curriculum for intimacy education from kindergarten to 12th grade. Dr. Woloski-Wruble lectures extensively to various groups concerning   intimacy, communication and sexuality.

Dr. Tsipy Ivry is a medical anthropologist.  She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology in 2004 from the Hebrew University (Summa cum laude).   Her dissertation was entitled “Pregnant with Meaning” (to be published as part of the series in Medical Anthropology by Rutgers University Press). Her thesis explored medical, popular and personal conceptions of pregnancy in Japan and Israel, based on anthropological fieldwork in medical institutions and in-depth interviews with Israeli and Japanese gynecologists and pregnant women.   She is a lecturer at the Dept. of East Asian Studies and also at the Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology at Haifa University.

Bat-Sheva Mandel, born in Lima, Peru, immigrated to Israel in 1970. Bat-Sheva completed her BA and MA in Psychology from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.  She has also been a certified clinical psychologist since 1978.  Bat-Sheva is a researcher in genetics and mental disorders and is a certified coach of psycho-diagnostics. Having worked in hospitals and clinics for over 20 years, Bat-Sheva works with sports and dancing as a therapy tool.

Dr. Nihaya Daoud received her PhD from the Braun School of Public Health at the Hebrew University in Hadassah.   Dr. Daoud received a BA in Nursing and  Masters degrees in Public Health from the Hebrew University and graduated from the Mandel School for Educational Leadership in Jerusalem.   She is a teacher and researcher at the School of Public Health in Hadassah.  She is also an academic consultant for community based health promotion programs, including two projects for Arab and Jewish women.  Dr. Daoud is a board member of the Center for Social Justice at Van-Leer Institution and was for three years a board member of the “Galilee Society for Health and Research in the Arab sector”.

Maya Bolzman is a group facilitator and personal & group coach as well as being a psycho dramatist.  Maya is an expert in professional and volunteer staff development in social and community-based organizations and in developing political and social leadership among women. Formerly manager of the instruction center in the Israel Association of Community Centers, Maya is now self employed.

Dr. Rachel Bar-Hamburger has been chief scientist of the Anti-Drug Authority in Israel since 1989.  She received her PhD in Pharmacy and pharmacology from the School of Medicine, Hebrew University.   She also completed postdoctoral studies in the Netherlands in journalism and is a graduate of the School for Political leadership for Women.   Dr. Bar-Hamburger was previously director of drug administration of Israeli Ministry of Health and head of behavioral research team of the Mental Health Center in Jerusalem.  She was also a co-founder of the drug information center at Hadassah Hospital.
